Prakasam is one of the 9 districts in Coastal Andhra
of Andhra Pradesh. Prakasam district was formed on 2 February 1970 from the
parts of Nellore, Guntur and Kurnool Districts. The district head quarters are
located in Ongole. The boundaries of Prakasam are Kadapa and Nellore districts
to south, Guntur district to North, Kurnool District to West and Bay of Bengal
to West coast. According to 2011 census, the district consists of 3,392,764
population and occupies an area about 17,626 sq.km which is the 3rd Largest in

Divisions
There are Three revenue divisions in Prakasam
district. They are Kandukur, Ongole, Markapur. Each divison is sub divided into
Mandals. There are 56 Mandals in the district, 1 Municipal Corporation ie,
Ongole and 3 municipalities namely Kandukur, Chirala, Markapur in Prakasam.
There are 2 Lok Sabha constituencies ie, Ongole and Bapatla and 12 Assembly seats
in the district.
