Nellore officially called as Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district is one of the 9 districts in Coastal Andhra of Andhra Pradesh. The Name Nellore is derived from a story of Lingam(stone) that forms under Nelli tree and the people gradually called as Nellore. The district head quarters are located in Nellore itself. The boundaries of Nellore are Kadapa district to West, Bay of Bengal to East, Thiruvallur and Chittoor districts to South, Prakasam district to North. According to 2011 census, the district consists of 2,966,082 population and occupies an area about 13,076 sq.km. The district is located on the banks of River Penna. Divisions

There are Five Revenue divisions in Nellore namely Kavali, Nellore, Atmakur, Gudur and Naidupet. Each divison is divided into mandals. There are 46 mandals in the district, 1 municipal corporations ie. Nellore and 5 municipalities namely Gudur, Venkatagiri, Atmakur, Kavali and sullurpet in Nellore district. There is 1 Lok sabha constituency ie. Nellore and 10 Assembly seats in the district.
