East Godavari is one of the 9 districts in Coastal Andhra of Andhra Pradesh. The District head quarters are located in Kakinada. The boundaries of East Godavari are Visakhapatnam district to North, Khammam District to East, Malkangiri district of Orissa to North-west, Bay of Bengal to South and West Godavari district to West. In 1859, Rajahmundry district was divided into Krishna and Godavari districts. In 1925, Godavari district is sub divided into East Godavari and West Godavari districts. In 1959, Naguru Taluks and Bhadrachalam Revenue division of East Godavari district are merged in Khammam district of Telangana. Again in 2014 Reorganisation, Nellipaka, Vararamachandrapuram, Chinturu, Mandals of Bhadrachalam and Kunavaram were added again to East Godavari District.

Economy

East Godavari district is one of the richest District in India because the richest sources of Oil and Natural gas reserves are identified in the district. The district is famous for Agriculture because of its fertile lands and Aquaculture. Divisions

There are Seven revenue divisions in East Godavari namely Kakinada, Amalapuram, Rajahmundry, Peddapuram, Etapaka, Rampachodavaram and Ramachandrapuram. Each divison is divided into Mandals. There are 65 mandals in the district, 2 Municipal Corporations namely Rajahmundry and Kakinada and 7 Municipalities namely Tuni, Amalapuram, Peddapuram, Ramachandrapuram, Mandapeta, Samalkota, Pithapuram. There are 19 Assembly seats and 3 Lok sabha constituencies in the district.
