Andhra Pradesh contains 2 regions ie, Rayalaseema
and Coastal andhra. Chittoor also called as chittur is one of the districts in
Rayalaseema. Chittoor district was formed on 1 April 1911 from North Arcot
district of Madras state. The district head quarters are located in Chittoor
itself. The boundaries of Chittoor are Kadapa district to North, Nellore
district to North-east, Anantapur district to North-west, Kolar district in
Karnataka to West, Krishnagiri, Vellore and Tiruvallur districts in Tamil Nadu
to South. According to 2011 census, the district consists of 4,170,468
population and occupies an area about 15,359 sq.km. In that area, 30% is

Rivers
The district lies on the banks of Ponnai river which
is located on the NH4 highway that links Chennai and Bangalore. The important
rivers thats flows in the district are Swarnamukhi and Ponnai that originates
in Eastern ghats.
Divisions
There are three revenue divisions in chittoor namely
Tirupati, Chittoor, Madanapalle. Each divison is divided into Mandals. There
are 66 mandals in the district, 2 Municipal corporations namely Chittoor and
Tirupati and 6 Municipalities namely Nagari, Palamaner, Punganur, Madanapalle,
Puttur and Srikalahasti in Chittoor. There are 14 MLA constituencies in the
district.
Economy
Chittoor is the major market centre for Groundnuts,
sugarcane, mangoes and grain. The major commercial crop is Groundnut followed
by sugarcane and mangoes. Tomato farming contributes 20% in the states's
production. Chittoor stood first place in Andhra pradesh in the field of Dairy.
The district is also famous for oilseed, Textile industries, Sugarcane
factories, Granite industry etc.
Tourism
Chittoor is famous for temples located in Tirupati,
Srikalahasti, Kanipakam. The major tourist places in chittoor are Sri Venkateswara
swamy temple , Horsley hills, Talakona waterfalls, Renigunta waterfalls,
Srikalahasti temple, Chandragiri fort, Varasiddi vinayaka temple in Kanipakam,
